NETC Apprenticeship Trade Centre

Apprenticeship Training

[The (NETC) Native Education & Training College is expanding once again and has opened a second location, at 294 Main Street East, as its new apprenticeship trade centre for entry-level carpentry, plumbing, electrician, and welding etc., that will offer skills-based hands-on training.

NETC will sponsor the apprentice in apprenticeship sign-up, registration and support the apprentices in between jobs as he works toward banking his/her hours to achieve their certificate of qualification. Apprentices will work under a licensed journeymen for 4 months, and then are placed in field placement with local contractors to continue their on-the-job training. Apprenticeship training is 10% theory and 90% practical hands on. Apprentices who are entrepreneurs, will have full access to the trade centre during their career’s, as they build there perspective trade contractor businesses.

The trade centre has start dates every Monday and will run two shifts from 7 to 3 and 3 to 11 Monday through Friday and one day shift on Saturday and has open enrollments to all peoples.

Business Training Certificate

Algonquin College is now offering a multi-modal business program delivered in a compressed format over 42 weeks. Students can choose a flexible courseload that suits their lifestyle, and either be on-campus (Pembroke) or attend class virtually through synchronous lectures. All students have full access to college facilities. I kindly request that you circulate this information as you see fit to members of your networks who may be interested. The Taggart Award for Algonquin Students

 This award was created to support outstanding students who have demonstrated leadership skills and have given back to their community or are involved in extracurricular activities. The award is to be distributed to eligible students of Algonquin heritage from one of the 10 Algonquin communities represented by AOO who are attending a college, university, technical college, or an apprenticeship program in Canada.

Created to support Algonquin students who require financial assistance for their postsecondary

education, the AOO and Taggart have leveraged additional support through a

partnership with Indspire for up to 12 students to receive $3,000 each through the new award

in 2022-23.

Although demonstrated financial need will be the primary consideration for successful applicants, other factors may also be considered such as contribution to the community as a whole and demonstrated academic merit and performance.

 Awards Criteria:

 Awards Category: Post-Secondary Education

Program of Study: Any, with first preference given to students enrolled in Business programs

Level of Study: Any

Indigenous Affiliation: Algonquin students from one of the following communities:

• Antoine

• Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation

• Bonnechere

• Greater Golden Lake

• Kijicho Manito Madaouskarini (Bancroft)

• Mattawa/North Bay

• Ottawa

• Shabot Obaadjiwan(Sharbot Lake)

• Snimikobi (Ardoch)

• Whitney and Area

Application Deadlines: August 1, November 1, February 1 each year

Application for the 2022-23 Academic Year: opens on May 1, 2022
